Three New Taco Bell Crunch wraps—I Tried Them First

As someone who sticks to favorite fast food orders, I understand the comfort of a reliable go-to. In college, I fell in love with Wendy’s 444 deal, which features a Jr. Cheeseburger, spicy nuggets, fries, and a pop.

My classic Golden Arches choices are McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with Cheese and Diet Coke. And at Taco Bell, nothing can replace my beloved Crunch wrap Supreme—filled with meat, cheese sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and that perfect crunchy tostada.

But Taco Bell has always been a place where curiosity reigns supreme. With new menu items popping up regularly, it’s hard to resist trying something different.

Despite my Crunchwrap loyalty, I was eager to check out the latest Crunchwrap variations introduced at the chain’s recent Live Más Live event.

Taco Bell’s Crunch wrap Remix

At the event, Taco Bell launched a new initiative called TBX, which invites professional chefs to brainstorm fresh ideas for the menu. The first challenge was to reimagine the iconic Crunchwrap, and chefs Reuben Asaram, Jennifer Hwa Dobbertin, and Lawrence “LT” Smith took it to heart.

They unveiled three unique takes on the Crunchwrap Supreme:

  1. Indian Buffet Crunchwrap Supreme: This version features chicken tossed in tomato curry, Mexican-spiced rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, and a crunchy tostada.
  2. Crispy Thai Noodle Crunchwrap Supreme: This offering features grilled chicken with khao soi aioli, crunchy wheat noodles, sour cream, fresh onions, cilantro, and a drizzle of avocado basil ranch.
  3. Southwest Hot CHX Crunchwrap Supreme: The star here is chicken nuggets coated in salsa macha, complemented by Oaxaca-style mozzarella, Monterey Jack cheese, purple cabbage slaw, cilantro, apricot hot sauce, and sour cream.

These new Crunchwraps were available at a two-day pop-up event in New York City on October 16 and 17, 2023. You can find these creations in Williamsburg and Washington Square Park.

The feedback from this event will help Taco Bell decide whether to add these exciting new flavors to the permanent menu in 2025.

A Taste Test Experience

I was fortunate enough to sample these three new Crunchwraps ahead of the pop-up event, and here’s my honest take on each.

First, I’ll admit I’ve never waited as long for a Crunchwrap as I did this time. Sampling them from a food truck instead of a Taco Bell restaurant likely contributed to the wait. If Taco Bell wants to roll these out nationwide, they must streamline their cooking and assembly processes.

Indian Buffet Crunch wrap Supreme

Let’s start with my least favorite: the Indian Buffet Crunch wrap Supreme. While it sounds promising, the Mexican spices in the rice overpowered the curry flavor.

Instead of a delightful fusion, it tasted like traditional Tex-Mex with just a hint of Indian spices. It was alright, but it didn’t quite live up to the expectations set by its name.

Crispy Thai Noodle Crunch wrap Supreme

Next up was the Crispy Thai Noodle Crunch wrap Supreme. This one had a lot going for it! The avocado basil ranch and fresh cilantro shone through beautifully, creating a fresh flavor profile.

However, my only complaint was that the crunchy wheat noodles started losing their texture when I took my first bite. If I had eaten it sooner, those noodles would have been perfectly crunchy, adding a fantastic contrast to the creamy elements. Still, it was a solid option overall.

Southwest Hot CHX Crunch wrap Supreme

Finally, I reached the Southwest Hot CHX Crunch wrap Supreme, and this one won me over. Featuring Taco Bell’s chicken nuggets, which deserve a permanent spot on the menu, this Crunch wrap was packed with flavor.

The salsa and apricot hot sauce combined beautifully with the sour cream to create a rich and satisfying bite.

Even though the Southwestern flavors didn’t come through as strongly as I had hoped, the meaty nature of the chicken nuggets combined with the cheesiness and freshness from the slaw made this Crunchwrap feel like a classic Taco Bell meal.

It was hearty and delicious and would definitely be a hit during late-night cravings.

The Future of Taco Bell’s Crunch wraps

As I savored each new Crunchwrap, I couldn’t help but think about the feedback from fans at the pop-up event and how it could shape the future of Taco Bell’s menu. While my tastes varied, there’s no doubt that these new creations offer exciting twists on a beloved classic.

You’re not alone if you missed the chance to try these limited-time offerings. Here’s hoping that Taco Bell listens to fans and considers bringing at least one of these innovative Crunchwrap Supremes to a menu near you.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the original or just someone looking to spice up your fast-food routine, the possibility of new Crunchwrap flavors is something to look forward to!

Conclusion

Taco Bell’s bold experimentation with its Crunch wrap Supremes opens up a world of possibilities. Each chef’s take brings unique flavors that challenge traditional fast-food norms.

The excitement surrounding these new Crunch wraps demonstrates that Taco Bell is not just about speed and convenience; it’s also dedicated to innovation and creativity.

Please keep your fingers crossed that these new Crunch wraps will make their way to a Taco Bell near you!
